Past Presidents
This page introduces the founder and past presidents and vice-presidents of the Deep Sixers.
The Deep Sixers were first organized in 2008 by Jim Bach from a small group of people who all enjoyed
diving and having a good time. The big picture was to create a nucleus around which divers of all skill
levels could get together for diving and having a good time, and share knowledge of diving in a welcoming setting.
Our merry little band has had great success in our endeavors due in part to outstanding endeavors of the past leaders
of the club. While we've always encouraged anyone in the club to plan a dive or activity, it's a huge advantage to
have a good leader at the helm to encourage others and wave the flag. And we've had extraordinary luck in this department.
Jim Bach - founder and first President (2008) of the club.
Jim founded our club starting with a group of people who enjoyed diving and having a good time doing it,
whether it was boat dives or shore dives, local or maybe taking a road trip up to Door County. Jim introduced
some of us to memorable diving in Door County. Jim's been diving
for many years and has extensive experience in diving Lake Michigan shipwrecks, and has a special interest in vintage
dive gear and dive photography and videography. He brought a lot of knowledge of the local wrecks to the table, especially
regarding the Niagara, going to the extent of mapping out some additional sections of the wreck that lie away from the
main section, which most divers never get to see. He's also put considerable effort into scanning areas of the lakebed
north of Port Washington to locate additional dive sites. Jim and ViAnn have also shared the hospitality and warmth of
their home with the club for the annual picnic and Christmas party, and have hosted special meetings in the past such as
Fred and Tammy Remers's farewell.
Fred Remers - Second President (2009) of the club. Fred is the
skipper of the Fog Ducker and has a big interest in photography and dive travel, and is a tailgater par excellence
(makes a mean pot of chili).
As the second Prez, he did an excellent job of promoting the club and getting everyone involved in whatever the club
had going on, whether it was a boat dive or a road trip to the Door or Fortune Pond, or an ice dive. Fred headed south to
Houston, TX in late 2010, and we all wish him the best. His enthusiasm and generous nature and fellowship will be
missed by all. Of course, now we have a place to crash when we go on a dive trip to the Texas Gulf Coast.
Dan Herr - Third President (2010) of the club. Dan is the skipper of the
MV Ludachris, probably one of the most unique boats to ply the waters of Wisconsin, and
lots of club members have had the pleasure of diving from that boat and enjoying the extensive hospitality of Dan
and Susan, including some incredibly tasty Bloody Marys. During 2010, Dan and Susan organized an excellent trip to Munising for some truly choice diving, and also
trailered the Ludachris up to Door County on several occasions, and even brought it across on the ferry to Washington Island
for the Deep Six Labor Day bash. Washington Island had never seen the likes of the Ludachris, and will never be
the same. Dan got us access to the Jaycees Quarry in Sheboygan, which had been left diverless
since Silent World closed their doors. Dan brings a lot of energy and imagination to the club.
Fred Wokatis - First Vice-President (2010) of the club. Fred was
elected as Vice President to step in to give the Prez a hand when necessary. We recognized the fact that one
person just may not have the time to take care of all the organizing and whatnot of being Prez, given the work and
family responsibilities that come up from time to time. Fred has been diving the local area for many years, and
introduced us to diving in Long Lake and Lake Ellen in the Dundee and Cascade areas. He also introduced us to the
UFO bar in Dundee, one of the more interesting establishments in the great state of Wisconsin. Fred is probably the
best scavenger diver around, and its a safe bet that if anything interesting is to be dug out of the mud, Fred will find it.
He's also known for being able to squeeze a surprising amount of time out of an 80cf tank. Fred is also the
caretaker of the Deep six Long Lake Navy, and the ice diving gear. And being a mechanic, he's handy to have on the boat,
as the skipper and crew of the Fog Ducker have found out on several occasions.
Brad I - Fourth President (2011) of the club. Brad has enjoyed diving many years
as he incorporated his love of the water to a love of the water below, having dove the Great Lakes, mainly Lake Michigan, for many years
with his side kick and founder of the Deep Six Jim B., to the spring country of Northern Florida, down to the SE Atlantic coast of Florida's
exuberant reefs to the Big Steel planted in the Florida Keys. He has had divers from around the world dive from his boat the M.V. Martuni
over the past years showing them the hidden jewels of the Great Lakes. With this passion for the sport his youngest son became a diver at the
age of 10 and Lucas seems to be following in the sport of diving and relocating wreck sites !
Dave Job - Second Vice-President (2011) of the club.Dave, along with Fred Remers, as owners of the Fog Ducker
have taken many divers out to local dive sites. Dave's an avid diver of tropical locations, Great Lakes shipwrecks, and below the ice of Wisconsin's
winter wonderland. Dave also assists in maintaining the Deep Six Divers Website and has kept divers up to date on group functions. Dave has helped
direct meetings and "is an excellent chef". Dave is one of the orginal Deep Six plank holders being there since the beginning.
